Who would’ve thought that the 2020 year would bring so many changes to our everyday lives!The year 2020 started off like any other year…we had new hopes, dreams, and new plans. No doubt, by the end of the year, many of us might have fulfilled these hopes, dreams or worked out on the plans but perhaps in the most unusual of ways as we were navigating our lives in the middle of a global pandemic. SURFACES REPORTER (SR) in association with WADE ASIA invited women in Design to share their inspiring stories from 2020. Today's story is of Architect Vijaya Bhargav who says that 2020 was the year of gratification for her. She shared eight factors that helped her to overcome 2020. The Founder Partner at Ostraca Architecture & Interiors, Vijaya saw 2020 as a time of learning for her. Here are the eight things that aided her to tackle 2020:

Resilience

The year 2020 made Vijaya realize that she was tougher than she thought she was.She feels gratification for her ability to navigate tough business circumstances with stoicism and resilience and by identifying opportunities in a challenging environment.

Gratitude

The architect expresses that she is thankful for everything she has. The year has taught her and everyone else to hear the inner voice even more and enjoy every small joy.

Hindsight

This year gave her enough time to reflect on her life’s work and plan course corrections.

Opportunities

The architect says she seized every chance to connect with the clients and help them plan for the pandemic.

Passion

COVID gave enough time to everyone to rediscover their passion and incorporate creativity in their works. Vijay says that she channeled her creativity and passion into designing high-end residential projects during this period.

Loyalty

As maintaining employee morale was a tough taskin the COVID situation, Vijaya gratified that she kept the team morale high with team-building calls, no layoffs, and timely salary payments. She says that her financial acumen and discipline ensured that they had the liquidity and cash flows to stay afloat and help keep 30 home fires burning.

Connectedness

Helping workers to feelconnected in the midst of an isolating pandemic was an arduous task. For this, she maintained organization-wide calls every day to keep up the morale of the employees. The regular communication helped the employees to feel like part of the team no matter where are they working from?

Nurturing

She was also supporting and encouragingher high-school daughter to navigate tough entrance exams for professional colleges.

Along with all these things, she prays that she may always muster the courage and inner strength to ride out any future storms.
