Feel Like a King or Queen at this 10,000-Square-Foot Bungalow, Telling the Rich History of India | Atulya

Atulya | Interior Project | Shilpi Sonar | Creations | Surfaces Reporter

Heralding the era where maharajas and sultans ruled all over the subcontinent, designer Shilpi Sonar, Founder and Creative Director of Creations, has beautifully crafted the interiors of this residential bungalow. Keeping in mind the interiors of palaces fit for royalty, this bungalow is the most glamorous residence, the city of Raigarh has ever seen. Spread over a sprawling 10000 square feet, its traditional interiors tie it to the rich cultural history of India, elevating the overall aesthetical value associated with the city. Combining the client’s raw vision for quintessential Indian interiors, Mrs. Sonar polished that idea by adding her own contemporary twist to it. Every room has a distinct theme and motif, just like palaces, that fits the nature of the rooms.

Upon entering the bungalow, a direct distinction is made between the foyer and living area. Regal and imposing gold pillars makeup the entrance of the living room, subtly demarcating the public and private areas.

Gold Patterned Wallpaper

The entrance leads directly to the living room which has gorgeous marble flooring, an intricately carved fireplace, gold patterned wallpaper, and a stunning chandelier that illuminates the room.

On the other side of the living room, a mural of Radha and Krishna, in bright hues of reds, blues, and greens can be seen. Adjacent to the mural is another sitting area, which is more widespread & open.

Coffee tables made of onyx, patterned blue chairs and sofas in neutral colors amplify the overall look and feel of the room.

Warm white cove lighting makes the living room feel more welcoming. Lastly, the living room leads to the dining area, which has a large dining table and has a beautiful view of the garden greens.

The drapes are in opulent red, made of a heavy material that does a fabulous job of blocking the light out.

Regal Restrooms, bathrooms and bedrooms

Even the restrooms have been staying true to the theme of royalty. Mrs. Sonar has used marble on the walls and the vanity is made up of an awe-inspiring carved gold detailing.

A sophisticated yet timeless bronze and gold-colored lighting accent hang from the ceiling, giving the bathroom a dim and suffused look.

Each bedroom has its own unique identity. While one of the rooms has hints of mauve and beige with a lit headboard, the other room has vintage pastel blue armchairs, patterned gold wallpaper, and a hand-carved ceiling.

Throwing light on her belief, Mrs. Sonar believes that “Raigarh has forever been known for its coal mine and reserves. Through my designs, I want to create an impeccable niche in the glamorous field of interior design. This bungalow serves that purpose, as the vintage interiors tie it to the deep-rooted and all-encompassing culture of our great country.”
