Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a monumental 77ft bronze statue of Lord Ram at the historic Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt in Partagali, South Goa. Crafted by renowned sculptor Ram Sutar, who is best known for creating the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, the newly installed statue is now recognised as the tallest depiction of Lord Ram in the world. During his visit, the Prime Minister also offered prayers at the temple housed within the mutt complex.
Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt is one of India’s most ancient monastic centres, deeply respected for its long-standing spiritual, cultural and social influence, particularly within the Saraswat community. The mutt, whose Goa premises were established 370 years ago in Partagal village in Canacona, is currently celebrating 550 years of its revered tradition. To mark this milestone, observed as the Sardha Panchashatamanotsava, a series of events are being reportedly organised from November 27 to December 7, drawing an estimated 7,000 to 10,000 devotees and visitors daily.
Addressing the gathering after the unveiling, PM Modi emphasised the power of unity, stating that when society and all its sectors come together, the nation progresses rapidly. He highlighted that India is currently witnessing a cultural resurgence, reflected in landmark projects such as the restoration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the redevelopment of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham and the expansion of Mahakal Mahalok in Ujjain. All these initiatives showcase a renewed national commitment to preserving and revitalising India’s spiritual heritage.
