Twisting Orange-Toned Corridors Wrapping Dongan Lake Sports Park in China | Atelier sq

These beautiful spiraling bright orange-colored corridors wrap the playground of The Dongan Lake Sports Park in Sichuan, China. Designed by Atelier sq, these twisting corridors catch attention with their sinuous shape and brilliant orange colour. The upcoming 31st Chengdu FISU World University Games will take place in the playground that is strategically tucked amidst the spiral corridors covering the main stadium and gyms before meeting at the center of the site. Located in the Chengdu World Universiade Park in Sichuan, The Dongan Lake Sports Park will host the 2023 FISU Games. The corridors focus on improving traffic efficiency. The design internet was to enhance social interaction with the public space and playground, enriching the landscape, increasing accessibility, and offering extra space for operation after the games.

Why Spiralling Corridors?

According to the firm, these tentacle-like corridors have different platforms at distinct heights that offer people to have a rich visual experience.

How These Are Built?

1,000 mm thick steel box girder forms the main structure supported by hexagonal V-shaped columns measuring 20 to 30 meters. And the orange-hued skin of the corridor contains two 3mm thick steel plates that are joined together.

The tangerine-colored coating contrasts the green landscape while showcasing the flow of movement. To give it a lighter look, the firm used a white sheet that gracefully reflects the orange shade and green setting.

The corridors illuminate at night because of the lighting that is fixed between two sheets along the corridors.
