A Folded House That Unfolds To Its Green Surroundings | Dipen Gada and Associates | Ankit Shah Residence

Dipen Gada and Associates designed a beautiful folded house in a prime residential location of Vadodara, Gujarat. “We wanted to create a folded house which unfolds to its surroundings creating nice areas within each fold and that is what we have tried to achieve with these concrete folds,” tells Dipen to SURFACES REPORTER (SR). The house, sited on a plot measuring 24,600 Sq.ft, features large openings that allow the inhabitants of this home to have a direct connection with its natural surroundings. Sited in a north-east direction, the house gets maximum sunlight. The architect has shared more details with us. So, take a pleasant tour of this wonderful home:

Open Towards the Garden

The plot is about 25,000 Sq.ft and the limitation of the development is that the firm cannot construct the house in South-West due to some technical issues and that is why they had to place the house towards North-East side, in that case, the sunlight from south and West needs to be taken care of precisely at the same time.

ankit-shah-residence-dga-surfaces-reporterThe design team needs to keep the house open towards the garden side as much as possible and that is what influences the overall language of the house. “We have tried to create concrete folds which are holding the entrance foyer towards the E side and the living room towards S-W side by keeping a corner view open towards the garden,” said Dipen Gada, Principal Architect, Dipen Gada and Associates.

ankit-shah-residence-dga-surfaces-reporterOne more outside court next to the living room is being created towards the garden side between 2 more concrete folds, followed by a family room on the ground floor and home theatre on the first floor within another concrete building keeping in mind that these areas are protected from the harsh sunlight with the help of wooden finish aluminium fins.

ankit-shah-residence-dga-surfaces-reporterNext to it is the placement of the bedroom in a way that these windows in a way give maximum openness and aeration but also protect from the harsh sunlight. On the other side, these concrete folds hold dining and kitchen areas.

A long customized wooden light is the USP of the room. The firm has tried to avoid the false ceiling by keeping precise electrical points right from the casting of the slab.

Home Theatre

Home theatre is kept on the first floor above the family room which is like a multipurpose area. The partition of the room is created in a way that they can completely shut with the wooden panelled door when used for home theatre purposes and the glass door can be shut when used as a gathering purpose.
