SURFACES REPORTER and MATECIA to host the Largest Architecture & Design Event of East & Northeast India in Kolkata
Kolkata | 30–31 January & 01 February 2026
Surfaces Reporter, one of India’s most respected architecture and design media platforms, is set to host the SURFACES REPORTER Architecture Event – East & Northeast India, the region’s largest-ever architecture and design confluence, from 30 January to 1 February 2026 at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan (BBMP), Kolkata.
Organised alongside the MATECIA – Building Material Exhibition, the 3-day event brings together architects, interior designers, dealers, and brands from 12+ states across East and Northeast India, creating a single large regional platform. Spread across over 1,50,000 sq. ft., the event will feature 150+ leading brands, making it the most comprehensive design and materials gathering ever held in Kolkata.
A core highlight of the event is Surfaces Reporter Salutes – Architecture & Design Honours, the first collective regional recognition platform dedicated exclusively to East and Northeast India. About 100 highly acclaimed architects and interior designers will be felicitated for outstanding contributions across residential, commercial, hospitality, institutional, and urban design projects, recognising work deeply rooted in regional realities.
This apart, there is Surfaces Reporter SHOWCASE, a special presentation zone, where brands will present while architects will review – an excellent opportunity for brands and designers interaction!
Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, Verticaa Dvivedi, Director, Surfaces Reporter Architecture Event, said, “For far too long, East and Northeast India have been perceived as slow or difficult markets—regions many hesitate to enter, assuming they are not easily reachable. What often gets overlooked is the exceptional depth of architectural thinking emerging from these regions. Designers here work with climate, context, and culture not as constraints, but as strengths. In many ways, the rest of India has a lot to learn from them. Through the Surfaces Reporter Architecture Event – East & Northeast India, we aim to highlight, promote, and amplify this outstanding body of work. This edition is not an arrival—it is the first page of a much larger national narrative.”
Design professionals and institutions from Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim will participate, positioning Kolkata as a vital cultural and professional bridge connecting East and Northeast India.
Curated by the 15-year-old Surfaces Reporter media house, the event continues SR’s legacy of creating large-format platforms for learning, recognition, networking, and industry dialogue. The SURFACES REPORTER Architecture Event – East & Northeast India marks a decisive step in reshaping national perceptions and bringing regional design excellence of East and Northeast India firmly into the national spotlight.
