Earthy Materials, Vernacular Elements, and Minimalist Aesthetic in Pune | Silhouette Architects & Designers | Viraam

This home captures the essence of pausing to enjoy nature's simple pleasures: sunlight filtering through trees, dancing shadows, rhythmic raindrops, cheerful bird songs, and serene reflections on shimmering water. Embracing earthy tones and vernacular elements, it adopts a minimalist approach. Indoors, subtle textures in grey and white enhance rich brick and teak hues, accented by cane and vintage pieces. Shebanti Chakraborty, Principal Architect at Silhouette Architects & Designers in Pune shares further details with SURFACES REPORTER (SR).

This tranquil home is nestled within the serene environment of the Tata Motors Senior Officer’s Colony, known for its lush greenery and vibrant birdlife.

Vernacular Design and Minimalist Sensibility

The design embraces an earthy material palette, incorporating vernacular design elements and adopting a minimalist approach with understated details.

The landscape is adorned with various species of Champas, pathways painted yellow by falling Peltoforums, and pink Tabubeas signaling the arrival of spring.

Natural Hues with Subtle Materiality

Indoors, a seamless dialogue with the surroundings unfolds as space flows effortlessly between different volumes. A restrained material palette, featuring subtle textures in shades of grey and white, serves as a backdrop to highlight the rich red hues of brick and warm brown tones of Teak.

Cane accents are thoughtfully incorporated, while the client’s collection of vintage furniture and artifacts find prominence alongside contemporary elements. Tribal artworks, cane lamps, and traditional fabric weaves complete the narrative, reflecting both the context and the clients' preferences.

Strategic Openings for Natural Ventilation

Strategic orientation of openings ensures optimal cross ventilation, allowing cool breezes to permeate the indoors.

Unique punctures at the uppermost level facilitate airflow, maintaining a comfortable and cool environment.
