PM Modi inaugurates Bharat Mandapam, India’s largest conference and exhibition centre based in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi

The center, which takes its shape from a shankha (conch), elegantly blends tradition and modernity. Encompassing an impressive 123-acre expanse, it boasts a myriad of state-of-the-art facilities, such as a 5G-enabled fully Wi-Fi-covered campus and 10G Intranet connectivity. This remarkable venue has been chosen to host the highly anticipated G20 summit. SURFACES REPORTER (SR) was honored to be a part of the opening ceremony.

On the portentous occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, The honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the International Exhibition-cum- Convention Centre (IECC), naming it - "Bharat Mandapam" at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on Wednesday, 26 July 2023. Around 3,000 visitors, including cabinet ministers, business leaders from various industries, film personalities, and many others witnessed the unveiling ceremony of the new ITPO Complex. The complex comprises a Convention Centre and several exhibition halls, designed to host large-scale events, conferences, and exhibitions. The architectural design of the Convention Centre is inspired by Indian traditions, displaying a blend of past heritage and modern facilities.

The shape of the building is derived from the Shankha (conch shell). Different walls and facades of the Convention Centre depict several elements of India's traditional art and culture including ‘Surya Shakti’ highlighting India’s efforts in harnessing solar energy,  ‘Zero to ISRO’, celebrating the nations achievements in space,  Pancha Mahabhuta signifying the building blocks of universal foundation - Aakash (Sky), Vayu (Air), Agni (Fire), Jal (Water), Prithvi (Earth), among others. Also, various paintings and Tribal art forms from different regions of the country adorn the Convention Centre.

Other facilities available in the Convention Centre include 5G-enabled fully Wi-Fi-covered campus, 10G Intranet connectivity, interpreter room equipped with cutting-edge technology to support 16 different languages, advanced AV systems with huge-sized video walls, building management system ensuring optimal functionality and energy efficiency, light management system with dimming and occupancy sensors, state-of-the-art DCN (Data Communication Network) system, integrated surveillance system and energy-efficient centralized air conditioning system.

The IECC Complex is India's largest Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) marking India's place among the top Exhibitions and Convention Complexes in the world. The revamped complex took almost six years as the redevelopment Started in 2017. Several halls including the "Halls of Nations" and the "Hall of Industries" were demolished to make way for the new world-class infrastructure, marking India's Advancements in Future Technology. The newly designed seven exhibition halls are intended to accommodate a diverse range of industries and showcase products and services from around the world. These state-of-the-art structures are a testament to modern engineering and architectural prowess.

With a campus area of approx 123 acres, the inauguration of the International Exhibition-cum-convention Centre marks a significant milestone in India's advancement to a new future The IECC project aims to boost India's economy, promote trade and commerce, and create job opportunities. It serves as a platform for startups, artists, actors, and handicraft artisans to showcase their talents and products. Additionally, it will play a crucial role in hosting the upcoming G20 Summit, further enhancing India's global stature.
