50 Million Saplings by 2025: Greenply Industries ‘Green Vision’ to Combat Climate Change

Greenply Industries, one of India's largest interior infrastructure brands, announced today that it would plant 50 million saplings by 2025 to help conserve the environment and promote sustainable development. These saplings will be planted in Gujarat, Nagaland, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, according to the company. Below is SURFACES REPORTER (SR) complete report on this green initiative:

A growing focus on environmental responsibility and climate change has led Greenply Industries to recognize that committed involvement in creating a greener future is crucial. By setting this ambitious target, the company aimed to contribute significantly to restoring forests, combating deforestation, and boosting the overall ecological balance.

The plantation activity will not only protect the environment but will also contribute to sustainable raw material procurement and ecosystem financial viability while providing employment opportunities for local communities.

Mr Manoj Tulsian, Joint Managing Director & CEO of Greenply Industries, spoke on the occasion, emphasizing their objective to plant 50 million saplings by 2025 in line with their determination towards sustainability and environmentalism. Greenply is addressing environmental issues, such as reducing emissions and striving for renewable energy production, in addition to tree plantation. "In the coming years, the focal point in our sustainability agenda will be to objectively consider all potential sustainability impacts that might affect both our business and stakeholders, going beyond the financial and strategic risks we currently take into consideration.”

As part of its ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and enhance resource efficiency, Greenply has implemented numerous sustainable practices and initiatives throughout its operations. It has invested in advanced technologies and processes to reduce its carbon footprint. In order to create a virtuous cycle of sustainable development that benefits both the company and the environment, the company has already extended its efforts to reforestation.

Greenply has taken following crucial steps as part of its commitment to promote sustainability.

  • Greenply has taken significant steps to promote sustainable forestry and empower local communities. They have planted 24.85 million saplings covering 31,714 acres of land by March 31st, 2023 with a goal of 50 million saplings by 2025.

  • The company is also engaged in agro-forestry, encouraging the growth of hybrid eucalyptus trees which benefits both the environment and those living in the area.

  • They have replaced steam coal used in their boilers with in-house waste - leading to a natural fuel savings of 2,69,130 kgs.

  • To set a new standard for the industry, Greenply launched India’s 1st E-0 plywood range; their Green and Optima products comply with high formaldehyde emission standards and are certified by both CARB and US EPA. The organization has also been recognised internationally for its efforts as they were awarded FSC®–FM certification under the interior infrastructure category.
