This is a unique duplex where dominant pieces of furniture take over the function of art, a space conspicuous for its rather spectacular views, catering to specific demands of the client. The architects ensured that they located all the bedrooms on the same floor whilst putting together a comfortable home that fosters togetherness.
In their quintessential style, Architects Krupa and Zubin have used sculptural artworks all around the house, some of the most unique ones being the Nemo chair from Driade, a crystal chandelier from Manooi, a lounge chair by Giorgetti, reading lamps from Contardi, The Charleston Chair by Marcel Wanders, a signature Armani Casa silk wallcover and perhaps the most striking of them all, the “O” seat by Marcel Wanders for Moooi that provides an ideal vantage seat to enjoy the view from above.
The private foyer which the lift opens onto announces the design intent. Heavily clad marble in black and white takes over the floor and walls. “Materials have been used for their texture and finish, from a solid matte linen finished wall to a reflective bronze mirror strip feature to camouflage the structural beams,” says Zubin.
Cognizant of the omnipresent view, the duo has used multiple layers of sheers at the windows, so that natural light filters throughout the day, providing the spaces with a gentle glow.
A large silk rug in hues of grey and soft gold adds to the warmth of this voluminous space, while the fabrics are in tones of mocha and espresso—an evidence to their visit to Italy for procuring much of the furniture. The home theatre is located behind the living room giving the media room an edge. The dining table has a top in semiprecious stone, randomly placed single drop chandeliers suspended from the ceiling above.
The entire space has an aura of encapsulated luxury, with the walls bearing panels of glass depicting peacocks.
On the floor above, playful and colourful pieces have been set together in the master bedroom entrance lounge. The bright red “Junior” seat by B&B Italia is a personal favourite of all the family members. The large en suite bath has mosaic by Sicis which continues onto the ceiling from the wall. The detailing prompts viewers to pause and take it all in. Overall, the interior design is so aesthetically pleasing to the eye that the viewer is left mesmerised by the space eventually not being able to resist the urge to own it and call it their home.
