Handmade furniture have been an all-time favourite. On the other hand, 3D printing is slowly turning into a rage wherein real- life objects are literally being ‘printed’ from machines. So what if these two techniques are put together? Something unique would be created and that’s what exactly is being done by Stelios Moussarris. The Cyprus based designer designs with only one goal,
“To create conceptual art pieces that are functional furniture.”
The Wave Coffee Table
The Wave Coffe Table is a CNC wooden table inspired by a film called Inception. Dimensions -100 (l)x50 (W)x 45 (h) cm
The Cyprus-based designer is known for creating extraordinary designs with the elements of surprise. He has created this table from steel, wood and 3D printing technology.
The picture illustrates the urban sidewalk in a meticulous way where detailed skyscrapers sound like quite a wonderful piece of furniture.
“THE ‘MARRIAGE’ BETWEEN HANDMADE AND 3D PRINTING TECHNIQUE IS WHAT EXCITES ME THE MOST.”THE ‘MARRIAGE’ BETWEEN HANDMADE AND 3D PRINTING TECHNIQUE IS WHAT EXCITES ME THE MOST.”
What is Your Inspiration When You Work On Any Design?
Inspiration is everywhere from nature to constructions, music, books, etc. I am always trying to create extraordinary designs with the element of surprise.
How Has The Experience At Fosters + Partners Helped You Develop As A Designer?
My Experience At Fosters + Partners Has Helped Me Understand And Give Emphasis On The Details Of Architecture Models.
Any Special Material/Technique Which IS Close To Your Heart And With Which You Would Like To Work Again And Again?
First of all, I would like to mention that most of our products are handmade except some specifi c parts which are 3D printed. For example, the wave citytable and dining table are mainly handmade except the buildings which are 3D printed but also hand painted by our teammate Michael Elia. The ‘marriage’between hand-made and 3D printing technique is what excites me the most. I love the antithesis of these two completely diff erent approaches.
Who IS Your Favorite Designer?
I admire the work of Duff y London and I feel very lucky and grateful that I had the chance to work in his team for a year as an assistant designer.
What IS The Next Design You Are Currently Working On?
My next designs are inspired by fossils and rockets.
The Carpet Chair
The carpet chair comes in a fine selection of persian carpets and styles. This chair gives the illusion of a magic carpet floating in the air.
