Deliberation over constraints revive Tamraa Jewellery Studio in Ahmedabad | Amogh Designs | Surfaces Reporter

Tamraa Jewellery Studio

Design is found where you least expect it and order is found in the chaos of things. Such is the design story of Amogh Designs when a family friend approached the Ahmedabad-based design studio to redesign her jewellery boutique with a Jaipuri decor theme. Co-founded by architect Pankti Shah and interior designer Shalvi Shah, Amogh Designs decided to emulate a modernistic approach with a touch of traditional aesthetics into Tamraa Jewellery Boutique. The major hiccup for the duo was to transform the living space of the client into a jewellery studio in a short span of three weeks with budget constrain.

Top: Down the alley as one moves toward the cosy veranda, a vibrant indigo doorway leads you to the studio area; Above: The waiting area tots up the wooden, rustic polished furniture beautifully amid the coloured glass fabrication and marble flooring, and customized accent pieces and Indian origin accessories.

Integrated with traditional Jaipuri elements to complement the jewels, the 600 sqft jewellery studio fashions an ambience that transports you back to the regal era with its wide collection of traditional jewels. “The theme of the studio and the jewellery items create a cohesiveness that pleases the eye as well as captivates attention,” add Pankti and Shalvi.

A customsied wooden partition screen with frosted green coloured glass sets apart the pantry section from the waiting area.

Traditional treat

For Amogh Designs, each space is unique in itself and requires a holistic approach as it reflects the character of its occupants and functions held there. The modernistic approach of the studio is elegantly poised with traditional touches. An enthralling combination of granite and Moroccan tile flooring arranged on the wide front yard welcomes visitors into the Jaipur-themed jewellery studio. A magnificent elephant sculpture with lotus pichwai painting stands at the entrance of the studio. Down the alley as one moves toward the cosy veranda, a vibrant indigo doorway leads you to the studio area.

To personify the spatial beauty, the duo incorporated a wood-carved antique desk with vintage wood and metal brocade chairs.

Before entering the studio space, an intricately wood-engraved partition elevates the component of the studio. A vertical copper waterfall enchants a soothing sound within the space as though a gentle stream is running outside. The waiting area, what was once the informal living room of the residential bungalow, tots up the wooden, rustic polished furniture beautifully amid the coloured glass fabrication and marble flooring, and customized accent pieces and Indian origin accessories. A modern take on Jaipur crafts

The Jaipuri theme in juxtaposition with olive green-pink tones brings out the conventional dynamics of the studio. “Keeping in mind the budget, the walls of the studio are not hand-painted but wallpaper is customized based on the theme,” notify the co-founders. The duo has articulately balanced a wood and metal material palette against the olive green-pink colour scheme. To personify the spatial beauty, the duo incorporated a wood-carved antique desk with vintage wood and metal brocade chairs. Thick wood carved frame runs around the two glass cabinets that display the jewellery collection. The central mirror with spiked moudling sprinted on its edge amplifies the space to appear large.

Concept over constraints

Born out of reflection over constraints, Tamraa Jewellery Boutique exemplifies that constraints aren’t hindering blocks, rather they create conceptually-driven solutions. With a wisely colour and material palette that kept the budget in mind and a short turnaround of three weeks, Amogh Designs has delivered a traditionally fashioned rearrangement that minimized the cost and maximized the endeavor of conventionally artistic appeal, only to confer the boutique a royal start.

The garden area is converted into a front verandah with table and stone seating.
