Designer: Solomon Canara | Project: Alliance church
Place: Sionnagar, Maninagar, Ahmedabad | Client: Alliance Church Trust
This being a public project and having budget constraints, the designer has taken a simplistic yet elegant approach. The challenge was to reinterpret the church within the contemporary realm; hence even though the traditional approach is taken in the planning of the church, the very image which is propagated is a contemporary one with a glass facade and sloping aluminum roof. The Indian marble flooring in the interiors are washed with light penetrating through the filmed glass. The glazed walls with the structural aluminum frame has clear float glass overlaid with the print of the emerging cross. The main columns are cladded with wooden laminates and rockwool (sound proofing). On the mezzanine and on few walls, CNC perforated wooden panels with rockwool are cladded. WIPRO down lighters are placed in the POP false ceiling.
