The Stunning Transformation of Delhi Airports Expanded Terminal 1

Terminal 1 has been greatly improved after the recent expansion at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. It presently possesses twenty Automated Tray Retrieval Systems (ATRS) and ten more baggage reclaim carousels than before, i.e. eight now. Read more on SURFACES REPORTER (SR):

Now that it has been expanded, Delhi Airport is able to accommodate as much as one hundred million passengers each year thereby joining the league of international airports with this capacity globally. Terminal 2 currently takes care of 15-17 million people annually while Terminal 3 receives approximately forty-five million yearly. The newly-expanded Terminal 1 adds about an extra fifty-five thousand seven hundred and forty square meters, making it a total of two hundred and six thousand nine hundred and fifty square meters.

Improved Boarding Facilities with Aerobridges

The renovated Terminal 1 proudly features 22 aerobridges, improving the efficiency of both boarding and disembarking operations. This enhancement enables passengers to transition directly from the terminal to the aircraft, eliminating the requirement for runway bus services and thus optimizing the entire boarding process.

Enhanced Baggage Reclaim Services

The newly constructed Terminal 1 now houses 10 baggage reclaim carousels, accommodating both arrival and departure terminals under one roof. These carousels, each 52 meters in length, represent an increase from the previous eight. The expanded space between two baggage belts aims to reduce passenger wait times, enhancing overall efficiency.

Expanded DigiYatra Services Accessibility

DigiYatra services, previously limited to Terminal 3, are now accessible at all entry gates in the expanded Terminal 1. This service enables travelers to bypass security and check-in lines, facilitating quicker access to their boarding gates.

Enhanced Passenger Comfort and Accessibility

Passengers with limited mobility can utilize special lounges and assistance phones in designated zones within the refurbished terminal. Additionally, improved dining and shopping options are available, alongside amenities such as a well-lit prayer area and yoga space. When dropping off passengers at Gate 8, an inner lane nearest the terminal is provided for convenience.
