Dilli Sadan to be a Mixed-Use Building; will Incorporate Biophilic Design Principles

On the lines of several other states, the Delhi Government is in plans to construct its own state guest house in Dwarka sector 19 of the city. Almost each of the Indian state has its own guest house, sadan or bhawan, in the national capital. On similar lines, the Delhi Government aims to set up its house to provide reliable and economic accommodation for dignitaries and officers coming to Delhi for various purposes. Here is a detailed report on SURFACES REPORTER (SR).

Dubbed Dilli Sadan, the guest house will be established in sector 19 in Dwarka, near Manipur Sadan and Bihar Sadan. The capital’s sadan, which is expected to come near the Dwarka Sector 10 metro station, will be nearly 11km away from the Indira Gandhi International Airport. As per the official statement, the proposal has been finalized and the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) will be entrusted with the task of constructing the state guest house.

Spread over 3,899.42sqm, Dilli Sadan by Studio Archohm will be used to house and host dignitaries and officials coming to Delhi for official work. The state sadan will be equipped with a number of modern facilities such as restaurants, a cafeteria, lounge, VIP suits, a conference hall, meeting rooms, an ATM, rainwater harvesting, water treatment plant, amongst others. As per the official statement, Dilli Sadan is expected to be different from other state guest houses. It will be a green building and meet a minimum 3-star IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) rating. Additionally, the guest house will be constructed in such a manner that it will not only serve the purpose of a state guest house but will also help in branding the city and promoting its cultural heritage.

Studio Archohm will be constructing a vibrant, contemporary government hotel with a lot of greenery and elegance. Its architecture will represent the capital’s persona of being the power centre of India. Reportedly, Dilli Sadan’s diverse programme aims at creating a thriving hub for citizens on a local level. A pair of 36m towers will be a landmark in Dwarka’s neighbouring region and will meet the highest hospitality and wellness standards. With a more biophilic design approach, the sadan will emphasise on sustainability, natural light and fresh air, and environmentally friendly materials.
