Designer Manish Kumat on Working from Home.

We have decided to Work From Home. We are a boutique firm wherein we give a lot of personal attention to our projects with higher involvement of teams along with site inspection. Therefore, in my opinion, working from home is not a feasible idea till we could explore some areas where we could work together so that the whole team might not get engaged. We have a site team consisting of 8-10 people who visit the projects across the state. The first thing we did is to ask them to stop site monitoring for some time and the same has been informed to the clients as well in order to limit the site exposure.

I am interacting with 5-7 senior people who are engaged in the creative works through conference calls or other means. The respective section heads, i.e., architectural and interior are in touch with their drafting teams and other members of the office in order to keep up the Work From Home.

I am not sure how this system will work in my practice in detail but we can achieve 25-50% work efficiency.

Tips for making WFH a success

Video conferencing now-a-days is such an affordable and easily accessible method for working. I, myself have been using Zoom for the past few days and it is very convenient.

If you are handling large scale real estate or institutional projects wherein work can be delegated to the senior associates, then working from home would be a nice idea.

It would be a great eye opener in these times in knowing how design can be evolved working from home.
