Bordoloi’s fascinatingly collection ‘Pitoloi’ comprises of small stools and a barstool made by cutting sheets of brass and given shape by wooden moulds, with the small pieces joined by an ancient floor-based coal welding technique. For this design, he has also won many laurels and it has also fetched him fame at Red Dot Awards. The collection also won the Best of the Best award. He collaborated with artisans who used to create cane furniture and brass utensils for creating this chair. The idea was to bring the traditional artefacts to the wider audience.
This award winning chair was showcased at India’s definitive design week “India Design ID, 2015.” It caught the attention of Giulio Cappellini and was offered to be a part of the project “Cappellini Next 2015” at the Salone Internazionale Del Mobile, Milano.
Ranjan Bordoloi is the Founder and creative director of Studio Bordoloi. After graduating from DOD (Department of Design) at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (industrial design), he has been practicing design from his studio (studio Bordoloi). Having done a course in Furniture and Interior Design from IIT Guwahati, Bordoloi says that he came up with the idea of using brass during his college days when he was exploring different materials and production techniques.
